Biochemistry practitioners urge FG to prioritize natural medicinal plant supplements By Ojoma Akor The Biochemistry Practitioners, Plant Treatment Oasis Association of Nigeria has called on the federal government to recognize and harness the preventive and curative powers of natural medicinal supplements in tackling diseases in the country. The president of the association, Olayemi Ikotun, made the call Saturday in Abuja during this year’s biochemist practitioners’ ordination and induction conference. The conference was themed ‘ Advancement of natural medicinal plant supplements in Nigeria ‘ He said the government should also recognize the association ‘s activities, and efforts towards ensuring effective use of natural medicinal supplements and raw materials in treating people in Nigeria.
Ikotun said the association has done alot of research, and also produced natural medicinal supplements, that could treat diseases such as fibroids, pile as well as antioxidant supplements that boost the immune system among others. According to him, some of the researched natural medicinal plant supplements have been approved by relevant health institutions. Ikotun also said the conference was organized because of the biochemistry graduands that graduated from the association’s six months biochemist training course. He said, “this is the purpose of the conference. We have taught them, and we have trained them on how to practice biochemistry in the area of plant biochemistry. So we are inducting them into the association. It will benefit our country in the area of using effective natural medicinal supplements and raw materials to treat individuals of diverse diseases.”
