The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed a COVID-19 case in Cross River State.
Director General of the NCDC Dr. Jide Idris, in a statement on Tuesday, said the only confirmed case has been isolated and is currently being managed in line with national treatment guidelines.
He also said the patient is in stable condition and responding to care.
He said, “This is the only confirmed case that has been isolated and is currently being managed in line with national treatment guidelines. The patient is in stable condition and responding to care.”
Dr. Idris said following confirmation of the case, the Cross River State Ministry of Health, in coordination with NCDC and with support from partners, has activated response measures, including contact tracing, surveillance, and infection prevention and control.
The NCDC DG said that all identified contacts are being followed up appropriately and that there is no evidence of widespread transmission at this time.
He said, “We continue to maintain routine surveillance for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. The detection of this case reflects that these systems remain functional and responsive.”
He advised members of the public to:
- Maintain good hand and respiratory hygiene
- Stay home and seek care if unwell
- Follow updates from official public health authorities
He added that NCDC will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
